Travel to Salzburg by Car

By Car

Salzburg is connected to Vienna and Munich through the A8 and A1 autobahns. An Austrian Motorway “Vignette” (road tax) is available for purchase and is required in order to use the said autobahns. Vignettes are compulsory for use of all motorways and expressways that are in Austria.

Travel to Salzburg by Train

By Train

An international railway linking the city with the rest of Europe services Salzburg, like all major European cities. Salzburg’s main train station, Hauptbahnhof, is located within Salzburg’s new town, to the north of the River Salzach. International train rides are available from Zagreb, Munich, Budapest, and Ljubljana (these are just a few of the destinations available by train).

Travel to Salzburg by Bus

By Bus

Salzburg is connected to Cesky Krumlov by coaches, and through there to the rest of Austria and Europe. There are currently two shuttle buses that operate in Salzburg for this purpose: the ShuttleCeskyKrumlov.com, which offers door-to-door services as well as private transportation to and from Cesky Krumlov, and CK Shuttle which also offers door-to-door transportation.

Travel to Salzburg By Plane

By Plane

The major form of transportation that is used to get in to Salzburg is by plane. The Salzburg W.A. Mozart International Airport that is located about 20 minutes away from the city centre services the city. The airport has direct connections with all the other major Austrian and European cities. A trolley bus is available from the airport that will take you to the city centre. If you wish to have more flight options, you may opt to fly directly to Munich and take a train to Salzburg from there.
